Winter Conert 12/11/2012
S-DMS December 5, 2012
Hello S-DMS Band members, family and friends. Our winter concert will be held in the East Central Performing Arts Center on Tuesday December 11th at 7:00 p.m. Students will need to arrive no later than 6:30 p.m.
Dress for the concert will be "nice" clothes for the beginning Explorer/Concert bands. This would be slacks and a nice shirt for the gentlemen and dresses for the ladies. Slacks are also fine for the ladies as well. Advanced band will need to be in black and white attire.
The concert will last about 1:10. We need parent help for several jobs. Stage crew, supervision of students not playing and passing out of programs. Since the ECHS drama department is performing the next evening we must clear the stage immediately after the concert. There is no admission but donations are always welcome.
Tri-State Productions under the direction of Jeff Perholtz will be digitally recording the concert. To advance purchase a copy please go to their website at www.tristateproductions.com
Fall Concert a Big Hit!
October 30, 2012 East Cental PAC 7:00 p.m.
The S-DMS Jazz ensemble and Advanced Band performed to a wonderful crowd at the Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, October 30th. The Jazz band kicked off the concert with "It Don't Mean a Thing" and "Autumn Leaves". This group meets weekly on Wednesdays from 3-4. I was so very impressed with them and look forward to great things as they expand their "book".
The Advanced band and its 75 members also played a wonderful concert. The costumed crew started with a Canon by Thomas Tallis which was followed by Shafer's "Twin Oaks". Mark Bertke, Jamie Moorman and Brad Richter all performed their solos well!
"Le Rejoissance" from Handel's "Fireworks Music" was performed before the 1980's hit "Ghostbusters". The final piece of the concert was a 20th century work by Michael Sweeney called "Ancient Voices". Exceptional job band! Their next concert will be with the beginner Explorer and Concert bands on December 11, 2012.
Numbers for the S-DMS Bands are up, UP, UP!
St. Leon, IN September 2012
For the third year in a row since bringing the beginning band program back to S-DMS, the bands are growing. In 2010 the 7th and 8th grade bands had a total of 129 students. We are now at 230!
We attribute this growth to several factors: daily contact, support from the administration, parents and students who see a unique value in a quality music education, and a dedicated/knowledgable staff.
