The Indiana State School Music Association is scheduled to sponsor student music festivals in the next few weeks with over 35,000 students from over 300 schools participating at more than 30 different school facilities throughout the state. After consultation with the Indiana State Department of Health, it has been decided by the ISSMA Executive Committee that to help protect students, schools, and communities from the spread of the COVID-19/Coronavirus, all ISSMA sponsored music events will be cancelled through April 11th.  This would include all Junior/Middle/Elementary Concert Organization Festivals and the ISSMA State Show Choir and Jazz Finals.

In keeping with the ISSMA mission to provide educationally evaluated music performance opportunities, a process is being developed to allow directors of registered Junior/Middle/Elementary Ensembles to submit video recordings for evaluation. Additional information concerning this process will be sent to directors as soon as possible.

The ISSMA Executive Committee acknowledges the disappointment that may be felt by students, directors, family members and supporters of the outstanding Show Choirs and Jazz Ensembles who were expecting to have the opportunity to share their talents at the ISSMA State Show Choir and Jazz Finals.  After careful consideration of all options, and in accordance with ISSMA’s responsibility to provide a safe and respectful environment at all ISSMA events, the ISSMA Executive Committee determined that a viable alternative to cancellation was not possible.

Our concert is scheduled for tomorrow, December 17th at 6:30 p.m. Should we experience a snow day cancellation our concert will move to this Thursday December 19th at the same scheduled time!

Last reminder! Festival is tomorrow 5/18/19. Eat a big breakfast. Be in your spot at 6:55 a.m. The permission slip can be found on your google classroom!

 

DO NOT leave anything in your locker that you will need for festival! KINGS MILLS HS is the performance site. Parents can pick you up there if you are not going to the park or just want to spend your day with your family.

You guys have worked so hard this year. I am very proud of you and cannot wait to hear you tomorrow.

Concert Tomorrow in the PAC. Call is at 6:35. That means be in your assigned spot at 6:35 dressed in Black and White. The concert will begin at 7 sharp and will last 1:05 minutes. You have worked so hard! Let's have some fun playing for our families and community.

 

KINGS ISLAND forms are due! 
Remember that these are assessment events, meaning that they are for a grade. Only pre-approved absences are excused or a medical note from a doctor.

Finally, if you have decided to sign up for band but it is not on your schedule, please see me as soon as possible!

Dear band parents and students;

 

We have the unique opportunity to perform our festival on a Friday evening instead of a Saturday. This is our equivalent of the ISTEP test because it is an evaluation of the program and whether or not we are being accountable for the music education standards listed by the state of Indiana. All parents are welcome to attend and to enjoy this wonderful event. Your children have worked very hard and I am very proud of their collaboration and accomplishment.

Arrive at S-DMS that morning with your band uniform (Black pants, shoes, socks, white shirt.) Students will stay after school!!

3:05 Eat (Skyline courtesy of Mr. R) and then change clothes! List any dietary needs.

4:15 pm Depart S-DMS

5:45 Arrive at Fall Creek Valley Middle School. Percussion and large instruments unload equipment. Concert and Advanced band will go to the staging room.

6:20 All Bands go to the auditorium to listen to other groups.

7:05 Concert Band Warm up.

7:40 Concert Band Performs (go for “with distinction”). Parents can take these students home after the performance if they wish. The remainder will pack equipment!!

8:20 Advanced Band Warm up

8:55 Advanced Bands Performs, (go for “with distinction”). Parents can take these students home after the performance if they wish. The remainder will pack equipment!!

10:30 pm Arrive back at S-DMS All rides should be waiting.

Our winter concert is one week from today on Tuesday December 18th at 7 p.m. in the PAC. Students report to their places no later than 6:35. Dress is black on the bottom white on the top. We could use some parent help in moving our students from point a-b!

 

Admission is free but donations are welcome! The concert should last 65 minutes. 

 

Remember that all fundraiser money is due!

We are looking forward to a great 2018-19 school year.  

Testing of beginning students for instrument choices will take place the 1st and second week of school. All Instrumental II and III students can bring instruments on day 1.

Band offers positive opportunities for our students. A valuable set of life skills through a rigorous music education has many benefits. Check out this video regarding especially how an instrumental music education affects our children in a transformative way.

If your child is a beginner: VERY IMPORTANT!!!

1. We recommend these brands of wind and percussion instruments for your children to ensure that they have a great start. Please stick to the following choices! Double check the spelling because some are knock-offs of these brands. Artley, Armstrong, Buffet, Conn, King, Martin, Selmer, Yamaha, Vito, Holton, Jupiter, Yanigisawa, Kurzweil, Bach, Czerney, Powell, Haines, Miramatsu, Laskey, Olds. Ludwig, Pearl, Tama, Gretsch.

 

If you have any questions please email! Instruments should arrive by Friday Aug 17th if you rent online! Sooner is better. Rentals can be obtained at www.munciemusic.com . Instruments should come with everything your child needs including a BEST IN CLASS Book 1. Music stands are useful for home practice, but optional! You can use other vendors as well, but we do appreciate Muncie Music for delivering the instruments and doing most repairs on-site.

We are in the final push! The spring concert will be May 15th at 7p.m. in the PAC. Kings Island is listed below. It has been a crazy but great year! Both Advanced and Concert Bands received Gold Ratings at the ISSMA Band Festival. The High School Bands also received that distinction. Information was posted on the google classroom website March 23. Hard copies are availble if needed.

We have more information about our ISSMA Columbus, IN band Festival for Advanced and Concert Band, as well as info for the Kings Island Band Festival for all bands!

 

ISSMA will be on Friday April 6, 2018. We will leave after school and return by 11:15 p.m. Food will be provided.

The Fall Concert for the Advanced Band and the Concert Band will take place on Thursday, Oct. 26 in the PAC. Students need to be on stage dressed in concert black and white by 6:40 p.m. The concert begins promptly at 7 p.m. with the playing of our National Anthem.

Our fundraiser begins Friday of this week with Piper Fundraising!

Wow! Are we off to a great start! Advanced and Concert Band are playing great and all of the beginners have been selected by their instruments. Those bands should practice about 140 minutes a week at home or during SRT. We have also taken a "pre-test" in beginning explorer bands as well to get a baseline for data measurement.
